Something Better Change. . .

in the words of The Stranglers. I can't do rants with Maryscott's passion and skill, but I'm furious.

More below the fold. . .I got a fundraising call from the DNC a couple of hours ago. It seemed to be aimed at exploiting Democratic anger at Alito's approval, and I wasn't having any of it.

I told the caller I was in no mood to donate money to the party as a whole at this point, given the disgraceful performance around Alito and the filibuster. I told her I was prepared to support individual candidates, but the party has to do better. I was pretty tough on her, and she gave up in fairly short order.

I'm disgusted and depressed over all of this, but the fact that the DNC is trying to exploit the Alito debacle leaves me even more disheartened. I've given money to the Democrats, to Planned Parenthood, Move On and other groups, and all they seem to do is keep coming back for more.

I feel used and exploited.

I didn't support Dean for President, but I did support him for DNC chair; I'm very disappointed in the party at all levels right now, and it seems to me that Dean hasn't changed a thing. We need leadership that imposes discipline and punishes those who break it; we don't need self-pitying complaints about how powerless we are as a minority and constant pleas for more money. We need principle, spine and cunning.

Anyone else get a similar call? How did you handle it, and what do you think?
